FIA cap rates today FIA
118 crediting parameters surveyedFixed indexed annuities credit interest based on a market index, with downside protection. Caps and participation rates are not yields. A cap is the most a strategy can credit in a period; a participation rate is the share of index gains you receive. In a flat or down index year the credit can be zero. Terms shown are surrender periods, and the ranges span S&P 500, Nasdaq-100, Russell 2000, and MSCI crediting strategies.

How these ranges work
Every figure is computed from rates the issuing carriers publicly advertise on their own websites or published rate sheets, collected on the survey date shown. We publish the aggregate picture only: the low, the median, the high, and how many products sit in each bucket. We do not model, blend, or estimate, and buckets with fewer than three products are withheld so no single product can be inferred.
We do not name the carriers behind individual numbers on this page. Named, carrier-specific rate quotes belong with a licensed annuity professional who can verify what you actually qualify for in your state. Rates change frequently and vary by state, premium amount, and application date; a range on this page is a starting point for a conversation, never an offer or a quote.
Categories we have not surveyed yet
Honesty over coverage: these annuity types are not on the board yet, either because we have not built the survey or because the category does not reduce to a single comparable rate. No numbers here are better than made-up ones.
Fixed (declared-rate) annuities
Traditional fixed annuities declare a first-year rate that the insurer can reset annually after a shorter guarantee window. Because the advertised number often is not the rate you keep, a fair survey has to track renewal-rate behavior, not just the teaser.
What to ask instead: the minimum guaranteed rate in the contract, the renewal-rate history, and how the first-year rate compares with the same carrier's MYGA.
Variable annuities
A variable annuity's return comes from market subaccounts you choose, minus mortality and expense charges, fund expenses, and any rider fees. There is no advertised rate to compare, and any number we printed would be an illustration, not a fact.
What to ask instead: the all-in annual cost (M&E plus fund plus riders), the surrender schedule, and what the guarantee actually guarantees.
Income annuities (SPIA)
A single premium immediate annuity is priced as a monthly payout for your exact age, sex, state, and start date, so it is a personal quote rather than a postable rate. Two people can hand over the same premium and receive different checks.
What to ask instead: the payout for your exact profile from several carriers on the same day, and how much of each check is return of your own principal.
Want to know which carriers are paying the top of these ranges?
This page shows the shape of the market. The names behind the numbers change weekly and depend on your state and premium amount, so we leave them to a person who can verify them: a licensed annuity professional from our network can walk you through the current offers behind any range on this board. Complimentary, educational, and no pressure.
Tap any row's ask button first and we will know exactly which range you mean.

What is a MYGA?
A multi-year guaranteed annuity is an insurance contract that locks in a fixed interest rate for a set number of years, similar in spirit to a bank CD but issued by an insurance company and tax-deferred.
Why do you publish ranges instead of naming carriers?
We survey publicly advertised rates across the carriers we track and publish the aggregate picture: the low, the median, and the high for each term. Carrier-specific offers change constantly and depend on your state and premium amount, so we leave the named quote to a licensed annuity professional who can verify what you actually qualify for.
Are these rates available to me?
Not necessarily. These figures summarize what carriers publicly advertise as of the date shown. The rate you are actually offered depends on your state, premium amount, application date, and the carrier's current rate sheet. Always confirm current numbers with the carrier or a licensed professional.
Is an FIA cap rate the same as a yield?
No. A cap is the most an index strategy can credit in a period, and a participation rate is the share of index gains you receive. In a flat or down year the credit can be zero. Caps and participation rates are crediting parameters set by the insurer, not guaranteed or projected returns.
Does Annuity Explained sell annuities?
No. We are an independent educational site. We do not issue, sell, or recommend specific insurance products, and we receive no compensation from the carriers we survey for this page.
Rates are the start, not the answer.
Whether a MYGA fits depends on your taxes, timeline, and what the money is for. Learn how these contracts actually work before you talk to anyone who sells them.

Ranges shown are computed from rates publicly advertised by insurance carriers as of the dates indicated, are subject to change without notice, may differ by state, premium amount, and application date, and may involve market-value-adjustment or surrender-charge provisions not summarized here. Always confirm current rates, availability, and contract terms directly with the carrier or a licensed insurance professional in your state.
If you request a conversation, we may introduce you to an independent licensed insurance professional. Annuity Explained may receive a flat marketing fee for that introduction; we are never compensated based on what you buy, or on whether you buy at all.
Annuity guarantees are backed solely by the financial strength and claims-paying ability of the issuing insurer. Fixed indexed annuity caps and participation rates are crediting parameters, not guaranteed or projected returns.
