What information does Annuity Explained collect?
We collect two kinds of information: what you type into a form, and basic analytics gathered automatically as you browse. You can read every guide on this site, from What is an annuity to Annuity vs CD to the retirement tax picture, without telling us who you are.
| What we collect | When we collect it | Why we use it |
|---|---|---|
| Name, email, phone | You submit a form to watch the film, subscribe to the newsletter, or book a complimentary meeting | To deliver what you asked for and follow up on that specific request |
| Promo code | You enter the code a licensed professional shared with you | To unlock the film and, if you later ask for an introduction, connect you with the professional whose code you used |
| Basic analytics | Automatically while you browse (pages viewed, device type, general region, how you found us) | To see which guides actually help readers and to improve the site |
| Booking details | You schedule a meeting through our scheduling provider | To confirm the time you picked and send reminders you can turn off |
Why do we collect this information?
Three reasons, and only three. First, to deliver what you requested: the film, the newsletter, a guide, or a meeting confirmation. Second, to introduce you to a licensed professional, but only when you ask for that introduction. Third, to improve the site, using analytics that describe pages and traffic patterns, not you personally.
We do not build advertising profiles of you, and we do not use your form submissions to target you with ads on other websites.
Who do we share your information with?
Two groups, and no one else. When you ask to be introduced, we share your name and contact details with the licensed professional you asked to meet, so they can hold the complimentary meeting you requested. From that point, the information you share with them is governed by their own privacy practices, and you can ask them about those directly.
We also use a small set of service providers to run the site: website hosting, email delivery, scheduling, and analytics. They process your information on our behalf, under agreements that limit what they can do with it, and only to provide their service to us.
We never sell your personal information. We never rent it, trade it, or pass it to lead brokers or marketing lists. If a law or court order ever compels disclosure, we would disclose only what is legally required.
How long do we keep your information?
Only as long as we need it for the purpose you gave it to us. Form submissions are kept while your request is active and for a reasonable period afterward so we can answer follow-up questions. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. Aggregate analytics, which do not identify you, are kept longer to track how the site improves over time. When you ask us to delete your information, we remove it unless a legal obligation requires us to keep a specific record.
What cookies and analytics run on this site?
This site uses a small number of cookies: essential ones that make pages work, and analytics cookies from a standard analytics service that tell us, in aggregate, which pages are read and where visitors come from. Analytics data is not used to identify you by name.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time, and the guides will still work. Some conveniences, like a form remembering what you typed, may stop working. If we ever add advertising or measurement tools that change this picture, we will update this policy and the effective date first.
What are your privacy rights?
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you specific rights, and we extend the same courtesy to every reader in every state:
- Right to know. Ask what personal information we hold about you, and we will tell you.
- Right to delete. Ask us to delete it, and we will, except where the law requires us to keep a record.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing. We make this simple: we do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context advertising in the first place.
- Right to correct. If something we hold is wrong, tell us and we will fix it.
- No retaliation. Exercising any of these rights never costs you access to the guides, the tools, or a straight answer about whether an annuity fits.
How do you opt out, ask questions, or reach us?
Email info@annuityexplained.com with the email address or phone number you used, and tell us what you want: unsubscribe, delete, correct, or a copy of what we hold. We respond to every request. Every newsletter also carries a one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom.
This site is written for adults planning retirement. It is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has submitted a form, email us and we will delete it.
What happens if this policy changes?
If we change how we collect, use, or share information, we will update this page and the effective date at the top before the change takes effect. Material changes, like adding a new category of data, will be flagged plainly at the top of this page. We will not quietly weaken the "never sold" promise; that one is the point of the whole site.
Prefer to ask a person how the introduction works?
The meeting is complimentary, there is no obligation, and you can ask exactly what happens to your information before you share anything else.
